Terms of Service

The service
Object Detective uses AI research and web sources to help you identify objects and learn their history. Results are research, not authentication or appraisal. AI-generated findings can be wrong. Value estimates are indicative only. For insurance, legal, archaeological or high-value decisions, consult a qualified professional. Never disturb archaeological sites or protected locations, and never eat, handle or rely on any plant, fungus, mineral or specimen based on our output.
Accounts
You must be 13 or older. Keep your sign-in details secure; you are responsible for activity on your account. You may delete your account at any time from your profile.
Memberships, trials and purchases
- Memberships (Detective and Archivist) are purchased on objectdetective.app and billed monthly through Stripe.
- New members get a 7-day free trial. You are charged automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. Cancel any time from your dashboard; access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Each plan includes a fair-use allowance of deep investigations per month, shown on your dashboard.
- Purchases cannot be made inside the iOS or Android apps. Members sign in to the apps with the access they hold on the website.
- Refunds: contact us within 14 days of a charge if something went wrong and we will put it right.
Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, videos and text you upload. You grant us a licence to store, process and display them to provide the service, including to AI and search providers used for research. Content you publish to the Mystery Wall, Bureau feed or your profile is public and may be shared by other members. Only upload content you have the right to share.
Community rules
The Bureau has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. Do not post anything illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, deceptive, spammy, or that reveals someone's private information. Every post and note can be reported and every member can be blocked; reports are reviewed within 24 hours and offending content and accounts are removed. We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
Acceptable use
Do not scrape the service, attempt to bypass paywalls or rate limits, reverse-engineer the research pipeline, or use the service to identify people.
Liability
The service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law we exclude liability for losses arising from reliance on research results. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
